Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station, King County Solid Waste Division
CivilTech provided full-scale structural and geotechnical engineering services for the new state of the art 76,000 SF Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station, which includes an underground parking structure, equipment bay for compaction machinery, and loading areas. Structural engineering services included evaluating and designing foundation options; coordinating with other disciplines to accommodate electrical conduits, HVAC system, and plumbing; researching and designing the foundation for a 45 ton industrial compactor; and designing walls, tipping and receiving floors, mezzanine, roof and structural elements associated with the operations room, meeting room, locker rooms, shower facilities, mechanical room, electrical room, parking structure, loading areas, and fueling station. This project reclaimed a 70-year-old landfill by building the new transfer station directly over the old one. The Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station project was awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certification, recognizing environmentally responsible buildings.
