Culvert Replacement at Railroad Milepost 28.24, US Navy
The goal of this project was to provide a 20-foot multi-plate tunnel through a railroad embankment. An existing 48” culvert was structurally failing and was a barrier to fish passage. CivilTech assisted the contractor with barrel grout canopy design review and with the tunnel shoring system design. An arch grout curtain was used for soil stabilization during tunneling as opposed to an element of the tunnel shoring system. Our engineers reviewed the project Work Plan and provided a confirmation letter stating that the plan met the design Drawings and Grout Soil Stabilization Specification Section’s intent. The headwall at both ends of the tunnel was designed using soldier pile walls with steel plate and timber lagging.
