Reservation Junction to Freighthouse Square – Phase 3 Remediation, Sound Transit
CivilTech provided structural design and construction support services for a retaining wall repair near the Tacoma Dome Rail Station. A newly constructed wall suffered extensive settlement on the BNSF line, which impacted railroad operations. Civil Tech designed a retrofit for the existing structural earth walls, which included cast-in-place concrete retaining walls founded on drilled shafts to carry the railroad loads and support the existing MSE walls. The walls were designed to accommodate existing utilities, to leave the existing embankments intact, and to minimize disruptions to train operations. Construction services included modifying foundation design to accommodate field conditions, reviewing contractor proposals to combine footing pours, reviewing shoring designs, and reviewing submittals related to rebar shop drawings, concrete mix designs, reinforcing details at expansion joints, rebar splicing, formliners, and monitoring plans.
