Eastlake Avenue East Service Tunnel, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
Design and construction of the below grade service Tunnel provides safe access between the Weintraub Building and the Eastlake Building on the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center campus. The tunnel will facilitate the passage of materials between labs 18’ below Eastlake Avenue East. CivilTech provided design of the temporary shoring system, which consisted of six inch pipe spiles and liner plates to prevent the soil from collapsing during excavation. Additionally our engineers assisted the contractor with design of the tunnel’s temporary and final liners, water proofing, and underdrain. The finished tunnel will be approximately 7’-2” wide and 8’ high.
