Fauntleroy Emergency Repair – Beach Drive Interceptor, King County Wastewater Treatment Division
CivilTech designed a soldier pile shoring system to allow contractor access to a ruptured 30” force main along Lincoln Park Beach in Puget Sound. The existing pipe was 50 years old, heavily corroded, and ruptured during heavy rainfall. The force main was buried along a bluff and required excavation at the toe of the bluff to make needed repairs. CivilTech also designed a sheet pile cofferdam extending 17’ below mean sea level. The cofferdam extended 10’ below excavated base to be used as a cut off wall to limit water intrusion through the base, which allowed the contractor to eliminate the need for a concrete seal and dewatering plan.
