I-405 / I-5 to SR169 Stage 1 Widening Design-Build, WSDOT
CivilTech assisted the contractor with shoring designs to support construction of a variety of facilities. Shoring tasks included preparing calculations and drawings for a jacking pit utilizing trench shields, soldier piles, and struts for installation of a 60” waterline. We also prepared temporary protection plans for underground water and sewer lines. Tasks included evaluating loads due to equipment, embankments, and permanent loads; determining loading configurations and bearing capacities, and developing Pipe Bridge Crossing Plans, Clearance Protection Plans, and Emergency Spill Response Plans. We also designed a permanent pipeline protection system utilizing a reinforced concrete pile cap founded on augercast piles to protect sewer and waterlines from new permanent loads resulting from the widening of SR167. The design package included details for sequencing, thrust blocking, connections to existing structures, and concrete encasement. CivilTech also designed the foundation for the Oakesdale Temporary Bridge Widening to facilitate movement of traffic for construction of Phase 1 of the permanent bridge. Work included analysis and design of augercast piles and field observation during augercast pile installation. Other tasks have included designing soldier pile shoring systems with and without tiebacks for Oakesdale Bridge Piers 3 and 4 and preparing fire hydrant relocation plans.
