I-5/I-90/SR520 Active Traffic Management System (ATMS), WSDOT
CivilTech provided structural and geotechnical engineering services for the WSDOT ATMS Design-Build project. The goalsof this project are to improve highway efficiency and safety by installing a series of electronic speed-limit and lane stat us signs to manage traffic under variable driving conditions. CivilTech’s structural tasks included preparing independent calculations to determine the adequacy of standard foundation depths, reinforcing, and anchor bolts, and providing design changes to accommodate existing field conditions. Our geotechnical tasks included researching existing boring data, preparing Subsurface Investigation Plans for each corridor, and preparing Geotechnical Memoranda with recommended soil parameters for CCTV and Wavetronic foundation poles and cabinet foundation designs. During the course of this design-build project, we also designed barrier mounted sign bridge brackets, SDMS foundations, VMS fall protection gates, and evaluated the stability of block walls and of existing embankments for the installation of cabinet foundation pads.
